Stulmuller’s Cabernet Sauvignon has always been stand up, good for a full mouthful…and then some. In 2012 the Stulmuller property in Alexander Valley saw the vintage lay particular praise onto this hearty grape. The season was generous with warm sunny days, very little rain during the fall and a long warm picking season with good yield…Cab time. The blend for Mouth Flowers comes from 3 different block selections. It is 60% block 11 (gravel bed with silt clay), 35% block 12 (gravel bed with silt clay) and the remainder block 8 (an exposed south facing plot with volcanic rock). Each block saw a combination of American and French oak, about 40% new and the rest older barrels. The image for this label stems from a picture I took of a good friend… in the dizzy hours of the morning. He introduced me to this wonderful Timothy Leary book of poetry on a fishing trip, where I found this little poem. It has stayed with me, making me smile every time I read it.

Review

2012 Kitten Swish Cabernet Sauvignon Mouth Flowers, Stuhlmuller Vineyard, Alexander Valley, California

A dark ruby impression in the glass with an expressive nose of maraschino cherry, blackcurrants, cocoa, violets and baker’s rack of spices. It’s a mouth-filling drop with flavours ranging from blackberry to mature cherry that melts in your mouth. Interesting espresso note melded to a range of spice completes the package. Pure pleasure. 93/100
