2015 Cabernet Sauvignon – The Guy Who Had a Good Time

Stuhlmuller Vineyard
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County

The 2015 growing season in Sonoma started off with wine makers wondering if the drought conditions of the previous years would continue. If the season remained dry (the winter was a warm one) it would be tricky for flowering and even more so for ripening grapes. However,
as mentioned last year Stuhlmuller has good water sources and the vines have been able to stave off the previous years bouts with dryness and so 2015 wasn’t as stressful as it could have been. Lucky for everyone early season rain managed to ease the tension. The season proved hot in August adding risks of dehydration. Harvest started early with picking beginning a couple weeks ahead of the normal mid-September start time. Yields were low from tricky flowering, shatter and the heat stress at harvest. All in all the vintage proved to be luscious with solid concentration.

A knock on the door
Yo, hey, what’s up
Cash makes it pour
And wine hits the cup
We’re headed for bad
To the sky we’ll climb
You know the Guy had
A very good time

The tannins and acids of the Alexander Valley lighten this vintage. The slightly smaller bone structure allows the fleshy bits to bounce a little easier in the wardrobe. The 2015 is just a good time, guy.

We all have them. The perpetrators of memory loss, the explanation for unexplained bruises, the mystery of why the couch is wet (which also explains where Fred went), and the reason why you can’t feel your fingertips in winter. I’m talking about the people in your life who love you dearly. The people who will do anything for you. The people who are your friends…the people who have really, really good times. Mark and I are lucky to have an unusually wide gaggle of friends who love getting into trouble…and taking us with them. Our label this year is from a night out with a group of friends. Somewhere between 3am and 5am I snapped a picture of good friend…he may have been eating a plant…it still isn’t clear. The wine this year is a tribute to everyone who loves having a good time and setting things on fire… mostly your life.

The label this year is the anthropomorphic illustration of your brain having no idea. Staring out, looking for something…waiting for something to arrive.

This guy had a
really really
good time
